A Rich Heritage

I live with my husband on farmland in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania that has been in his family since the 1930's. Our parents grew up through the great depression. We were both close to our grandparents who lived through 2 world wars, the invention of electricity, the Tin Lizzie, the telephone and more. Our folks were average people without a lot of money but rich in values. They taught us to "make use and make do". You either made it yourself, repaired it or re-made it into something useful. They recycled long before there was a word for it. They never threw anything away. And they passed all that on to us.

My husband and I have a rich heritage that we realize not every one has access to. There is a whole new generation that is searching for their roots. For the simplicity of this life that was hard, but rewarding. In our high tech society, it's hard for some to imagine. Each item I sell has a story to tell, a history all it's own and offers a connection to this past.

Most of the items for sale in ThimbledoodlesAttic came from my own attic, the barn, our parents - all handed down through the generations. When I sell these items, I feel I am passing on a part of my heritage - a time gone by to someone who is interested in keeping that same history alive. Or someone who enjoys this as much as I do. It's about connecting to the past. Remembering.
